Andy Warhol, The Rolling Stones, Rufus Wainwright and Billy Joel. These are just a few celebrated musicians who love Montauk. The furthest point east on Long Island and eastern most census-designated place in New York State has always been a creative microcosm and rustic beach town with an active fishing community. However, Montauk has more recently been hailed as the new hot spot for those who want to escape the bustle of Southampton and East Hampton and embrace the open space and relaxed beach atmosphere. There are a number of hotels and inns, but the summer is so busy it’s often hard to find a weekend retreat.
